Asphalt vs. Concrete for Las Vegas Commercial Properties
Compare asphalt and concrete for parking areas, drive lanes, sidewalks, pads, and other commercial surfaces in Southern Nevada.
Asphalt and concrete both have important roles on commercial properties, but they are not interchangeable. The best choice depends on the type of traffic, the surface function, project budget, maintenance expectations, appearance, and site conditions.
Asphalt is widely used for parking lots, drive lanes, and roadways because it can provide a smooth driving surface and can often be repaired or resurfaced in sections. Concrete is commonly selected for sidewalks, curbs, gutters, pads, ramps, dumpster areas, and locations where rigidity or a different finished appearance is desired.
Las Vegas heat should be considered during design, installation, and maintenance. Surface temperatures can become extreme, and drainage remains important even in a dry climate because irrigation runoff and seasonal storms can expose weak areas in the pavement system.
Many commercial projects use both materials. A parking lot may use asphalt for the primary driving and parking surface while incorporating concrete curbs, sidewalks, ADA ramps, equipment pads, and drainage features.
A site evaluation can help determine whether repair, replacement, resurfacing, or a combination of asphalt and concrete work makes the most sense for the property.
